Century Walk Remembers John "Jack" Holme
June 27, 2012

Jack Holme, creator of Naperville Century Walk's Growth and Change scupture, died peacefully in his home on June 23, 2012.

His obiturary can be found in today's Naperville Sun.  Jack sculpted in metal, bronze, wood, and turned ordinary discarded items into something beautiful. In addition to the piece he created for the Century Walk, Jack's commissioned sculptures are permanently installed at Skokie North Shore Sculpture Park (Illinois), Peoples State Bank (St Joseph, Michigan), Fitzgerald's Park (Cork International Sculpture Symposium, Ireland), The Chiropractic College (Lombard, Illinois) and in private collections throughout the world.  He also has had sculptures displayed in many galleries, including a current exhibit at OnView in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Jini Clare, author of Century Walk: Art Imitating History, signed Jack's online guestbook today, saying: "I was sorry to read about Jack's passing in this morning's newspaper. I had the privilege of interviewing Jack several years ago about his sculpture, "Growth and Change," which he created for Century Walk in Naperville. Jack honored us when he attended the book signing of our coffee-table book, "Century Walk: Art Imitating History," in 2010. He patiently signed copies of the book on the page that featured his fascinating work of art. I will think of him every time I walk near his sculpture. He was an extremely bright and creative man. May he rest in peace."

A celebration of Jack's life was held today, Wednesday, June 27, at 11:00 a.m. at The Mather, 450 Davis Street, Evanston, Illinois. Memorials in honor of Jack may be made to The American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305 or to a charitable organization of your choice. Arrangements made by Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home & Crematory, Naperville, Illinois. For information please call 630-355-0264 or www.beidelmankunschfh.com.

You can visit Jack's scupture, Growth and Change, a 2,200-pound, 10-foot tall sculpture made of three bent panels of steel depicting the tools of business, industry, and the household in front of the Jefferson Hill Shops in downtown Naperville.  Click here to view "Growth and Change" on the Century Walk website
