It's official.

The second phase of the Century Walk is done.

Almost.

Artists Hector Duarte and Mariah deForest have about two weeks of work before their mural depicting transportation is complete.

About 150 people viewed the mural during a dedication ceremony Sunday for the second phase of the Century Walk, a trail of public artworks through downtown Naperville.

The mural is one of three pieces included in Phase II and is located on the east side of the Lantern restaurant building, at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Washington Street.

Other projects include a rusted steel sculpture showing various tools used by Napervillians during the past century and a glass tile mosaic depicting farm life here.

Projects from Phase I included a mural about journalism in Naperville, two mosaic benches that tell the story of the DuPage River, and a relief sculpture depicting the Naperville Municipal Band.

During Sunday's dedication ceremony, Century Walk administrator Michael Trippiedi steered a crowd of people from the sculpture to the mural and then over to the mosaic, which is on the east side of the Hozhoni Native American Art building at Main Street and Jefferson Avenue.

The crowd then celebrated the Century Walk project during a reception at the Naperville Municipal Center.

"It was a very good event," Trippiedi said.

"The big question now is for the mural -- when is it going to be complete.

It should be done within the next two weeks, providing there is good weather."

As artists wrap up work on the mural, Trippiedi said he and others involved in the Century Walk likely will begin planning for Phase III. Trippiedi said some of the locations being considered for next year's projects are the Central Parking Facility and Nichols Library.

"We will really start planning next year in the next couple of weeks," he said.
